Description
We offer an organic St. John's wort hydrolate for aromatherapy, which comes from the plant with the botanical name Hypericum perforatum. In international practice, the product is referred to as St. John's wort Organic Hydrolat for Aromatherapy. The flowers of the species are arranged in terminal open inflorescences of the cyme type, and it is they that enter distillation, which determines the character of the liquid. Extraction is carried out with steam, so the volatile fraction remains limited and the scent strength stays at a mild level. The color ranges from colorless to pale yellow. The light tone is due to the flowers, which release few coloring substances into the aqueous phase. The scent combines a herbal, warm and slightly sweet side. The family Hypericaceae unites species in which the volatile compounds accumulate in the flower part, so the distillate remains mild and herbal in character. The plant material comes from organic plantations in Bulgaria. Organic cultivation defines a simple picture of the composition, since the liquid contains only an aqueous base and a volatile part, while preservatives and colorants are not part of it. Alongside the scent stands the clear appearance of the liquid. The herbal thread leads the profile, while the warm and slightly sweet shade stands behind it and only complements the overall picture of the scent. Steam distillation gives the liquid a clean aromatic line without a secondary tone. Translucent glands, formed as a subepidermal cavity, develop in the flower organs of the plant, and the volatile part of the raw material comes from there. The mild strength of the aroma results from the low volatile content in the aqueous medium, which leaves the scent faintly expressed and even along its entire length. St. John's wort reaches its final form as a light liquid with a mild herbal and slightly sweet scent.
Application
The organic St. John's wort hydrolate serves in aromatherapy as an aqueous base for room mists and textile sprays. Room mists disperse into the air the herbal and warm scent of the raw material, which finishes with a slightly sweet note. The note remains soft, as the hydrolate contains few volatile compounds. The volatile compounds also transfer onto fabrics, so textile sprays are used to freshen curtains, covers and cushions. Alongside textiles, the hydrolate is included in ultrasonic diffuser blends, where it acts as the water phase in the reservoir of the device. The device converts the liquid into a cool mist without heating. In addition, the raw material is present in bath salts, which absorb the liquid and carry the scent into the water. The bath salts are combined with lavender water and rose water in a shared formulation. Wardrobe and drawer sachets acquire the scent of St. John's wort when sprayed with the liquid, while the colorless to pale yellow tint keeps the fabric looking clean. The sachet fabric dries soon after spraying, so the scent remains in the enclosed space of the cabinet and among the clothes inside it.
Storage
Store the organic St. John's wort hydrolate in a dark, cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat. Maintain a temperature of +4°C to +10°C to limit the growth of microorganisms. After opening, use the contents within 6 months and limit the amount of air in the packaging. Use only aluminum or glass bottles for aromatherapy products, preferably made of dark glass, which protect the aromatherapy hydrolate from light. Close tightly after each use to prevent air and contaminants from entering. Observing these conditions preserves the freshness and quality of the product for a longer period.
