The species seeks soils with high nitrogen and phosphate reserves, which is why it most often inhabits humus-rich sites near human settlements and farmyards. The fields in Bulgaria provide the underground raw material for processing. Natural cultivation keeps the land free of synthetic fertilisers and free of chemical agents. The part used is limited to the rhizome and the underground branches of the herb. Supercritical carbon dioxide acts as the extraction medium and, after the pressure drops, leaves the mixture in gaseous form. Therefore, residual solvents are completely absent from the root extract.
