The plant belongs to the Asteraceae family, one of the largest in the world, whose inflorescences are flower heads made up of numerous tiny florets arranged on a common receptacle. The species name millefolium refers to the finely divided, feather-like leaves, which make the species easy to recognize among other herbaceous plants. The stalk is harvested in Bulgaria when the inflorescences open their flower heads and the herbaceous mass reaches its full aromatic reserve for the entire summer season.
