The plant belongs to the family Geraniaceae, whose name comes from the Greek word for crane and refers to the elongated shape of the mature fruits. The family brings together predominantly herbaceous members of the temperate regions. This herbaceous species occupies rocky slopes and shady places on the Balkan Peninsula, and the raw material for the absolute comes from Bulgaria. The Bulgarian habitats provide roots grown naturally, without synthetic fertilizers or growth stimulants.
