Description
We present organic thyme hydrolate for animals, obtained from the aerial part of the plant Thymus vulgaris. Outside the Bulgarian market, the distillate bears the name Thyme organic hydrolate for animals. The organic cultivation of the crops in Bulgaria excludes artificial fertilizing and treatment agents, which is why the harvested mass retains its original composition until extraction. No preservatives or colorants are present in the composition, and the liquid consists solely of the matter obtained from the organically grown stalk of the crop. The aerial stalk, harvested from the organic crop, is used for the extraction. The volatile fraction accumulates in a subcuticular space above the secretory cells of the glandular hairs, as that is where the aromatic substances of the species are formed. Steam extraction preserves the herbal purity of the aromatic profile in the finished liquid. The color ranges from yellowish to dark brown and comes from the aerial part of the stalk. The liquid is clear and homogeneous. The fragrance of the liquid manifests itself with strong density. An herbal character and woody notes shape the aromatic picture of the product. Systematics assigns the species a place in the Lamiaceae family among related plants. Terpinene, thymol, cymene and carvacrol lead the thymol chemotype, and their presence determines the herbal direction of the fragrance in the finished liquid. In addition, the color of the distillate follows the leaves and flowers of the stalk, while steam distillation keeps the aromatic profile close to the plant. The hairs occur on both the upper and the lower side of the leaf blade. Along with its organic origin, thyme hydrolate transfers the entire herbal density of its stalk to the finished liquid.
