Description
Our natural tansy essential oil for foods is obtained from the species with the botanical name Tanacetum vulgare. The product is known as Tansy natural essential oil for food in international practice. The product's composition remains entirely natural and includes only the volatile compounds that the plant raw material releases during distillation. Preservatives and colourants remain absent from its contents. Its purity results from natural cultivation, in which the plant develops independently in the wild environment of its sites. The sites are located in Bulgaria, where the species occupies river terraces, dry field margins, roadside strips and unused land across most of the country. The species belongs to the Asteraceae family, whose members retain their volatile substances in small glandular structures on the inflorescences. The structures are concentrated on the flowers, which undergo steam distillation during the warm season of full bloom. Distillation transfers only the volatile portion of the floral raw material into the resulting liquid, so the aroma of the finished oil remains completely pure and strong. The fragrance unfolds fresh and minty, with a light sweetness at the finish. In addition, the oil displays a rich blue-green colour that comes specifically from the azulenes in the flowers used. The colour goes hand in hand with the liquid consistency, which maintains fluidity throughout its volume. The free-flowing liquid combines its wild origin with its plant character, which defines its advantages. The advantages are also confirmed by studies of the Bulgarian oil, whose authors report a clear predominance of oxygen-containing monoterpenes among all the volatile ingredients. The monoterpenes with oxygen in their molecules determine the volatility of tansy oil.
Application
Tansy essential oil is used mainly in cooking, where it is valued for its pronounced herbal and slightly bitter character. It is incorporated into flavoured cooking oils that give dishes a delicate plant nuance, as well as into seasoning blends for marinades and dressings. It is suitable for herbal sauces for meat and fish, for natural vinegars with plant supplements, and for flavouring soups and stews through concentrated extracts. It is often included in blends for spicy and savoury dishes, in oils for seasoning roast potatoes and root vegetables, and in salad dressings with a slight bitterness. It is added in small quantities to syrups for fruit drinks and cocktails, to natural pastes and sauces to enrich their flavour, and to blends for homemade marinades and pickles. It is used for flavouring baked goods and desserts, where it adds a distinctive accent, as well as in specialities with a regional profile. Because of its natural thujone content, the oil is used in strictly controlled doses and very small quantities, and is incorporated by experienced manufacturers in strict compliance with technological safety standards.
Storage
Store natural tansy essential oil in a dark, cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Maintain a temperature of +5°C to +20°C to prevent oxidation and changes in quality. After opening, limit the amount of air in the packaging, and as the contents decrease, transfer the remainder to a smaller, clean and dry bottle. Use only aluminium or glass bottles for food products, preferably made of dark glass, which protect the essential oil for foods from light. Close tightly after each use to prevent air and moisture from entering. Observing these conditions preserves the product's quality and safety for a longer period.
