Description

We present a natural smoke tree hydrolate for aromatherapy, obtained from the leaves of the plant with the botanical name Cotinus coggygria. In international practice, the product is referred to as Smoke Tree natural hydrolate for aromatherapy. The species belongs to the family Anacardiaceae and grows on land in Bulgaria. The plants grow under natural conditions in which no synthetic agents reach them, so the leaf mass arrives clean for processing. The leaves are used for extraction, while the wood and bark are left aside. Steam distillation gives the liquid its strength, since it transfers the volatile substances of the leaves into the aqueous phase and preserves their character. The aroma is strong and combines a bitter and sharp side. The strength of the scent is due to the volatile compounds that the leaf tissue releases during extraction. The color ranges from colorless to slightly greenish. The light greenish tone comes from the coloring substances of the leaf tissue. The product is a clear liquid that remains uniform throughout its entire volume. The leaves of this species are simple, ovate to obovate, and bear a grayish tint that is visible over their entire surface during the growing season. Limonene, pinene, ocimene, terpinolene and myrcene are among the described constituents of the leaf oil, and these substances account for the sharp side of the scent. In addition, the liquid contains water and the volatile substances of the leaves, and there are no added preservatives or colorants in it. The natural cultivation regime is reflected in the composition, while the purity of the profile is determined by the extraction method. The sharp bitter tone remains dominant in the natural smoke tree hydrolate.

Application
Natural smoke tree hydrolate is used in aromatherapy as a fragrance ingredient of diffuser blends for ultrasonic diffusers. Ultrasonic diffusers turn the aqueous phase into a cold mist without heating, so the hydrolate retains its bitter and sharp scent with a pleasant side in the mist. The scent of the blends is complemented by pine and fir hydrolates. Room sprays use the same raw material as the main fragrance ingredient, since its aqueous nature allows it to be sprayed as a fine mist. The color of the liquid, ranging from colorless to slightly greenish, preserves the clear appearance of the room spray. In addition, the product is used in bath bombs, where it serves as the liquid that binds the dry mix. The dry mix obtains its fragrance component from the liquid. Alongside bath bombs, the raw material is included in the filling of scented sachets for wardrobes and cupboards, where the liquid moistens the dried leaves, flowers and herbs. The sachet filling with smoke tree hydrolate carries the scent into the enclosed space of the wardrobe and the clothes cupboard.

Storage

Store the natural smoke tree hydrolate in a dark, cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat. Maintain a temperature of +4°C to +10°C to limit the growth of microorganisms. After opening, use the contents within 6 months and limit the amount of air in the packaging. Use only aluminum or glass bottles for aromatherapy products, preferably made of dark glass, which protect the aromatherapy hydrolate from light. Close tightly after each use to prevent air and contaminants from entering. Observing these conditions preserves the freshness and quality of the product for a longer period.
