The plant belongs to the order Rosaceae and is cultivated as a perennial shrub. The petals provide all the raw material, while the other parts of the flower remain outside the steam treatment during extraction, which draws precisely on their entire petal layer. These petals lack glandular hairs, so the volatile substances are released from the epidermal layers of the petal tissue when the collected raw material is heated. The purity of the scent comes from water-steam extraction, since only the soluble aromatic constituents of the collected flowers of the floral mass pass into the aqueous phase. Phenylethyl alcohol, geraniol, citronellol and nerol are described in the aqueous phase of this species as the leading constituents of the finished liquid. Storage
