Description
We present natural oregano hydrolate for perfumery, obtained from the leaves of the plant of the species Origanum vulgare. It is known as Oregano natural hydrolate for perfumery. The Lamiaceae family includes the species among its members, and the raw material grows on Bulgarian fields under a natural regime. The peltate glandular trichomes on the leaves collect the volatile fraction and thus determine the richness of the aromatic raw material and the strength of the finished scent in the distillate. The glandular cells lie beneath a common cuticle, and the secretion finds its way out when it ruptures on the leaf surface. The strength of the scent remains high. The spicy, herbal and bitter tones build the aromatic picture of the distillate. The color of the liquid ranges from colorless to slightly yellowish. The product takes an entirely liquid form. Natural cultivation keeps the field away from external substances, which is why the composition of the finished liquid is free of preservatives and added colorants. Steam distillation links the method with the purity of the scent, as only the volatile constituents of the leaf mass from the field pass into the distillate. Carvacrol and thymol hold the leading place among the phenolic monoterpenes of this species, while cymene and terpinene complete the overall picture. The species gives rise to various chemotypes, including an acyclic variant with linalool and linalyl acetate. In addition, the light tone of the distillate and the leaf source of the raw material are connected, since the leaf tissue leaves only a faint yellowish tint. It is precisely the natural cultivation regime that determines the purity of the final composition. The finished distillate combines a strong scent, a light tone and a composition made solely of plant material.
Application
Oregano leaf hydrolate, extracted by steam distillation, is a characteristic raw material in perfumery with a spicy, herbal and slightly bitter profile. It is used in men's essences with pronounced depth, in woody spicy compositions seeking strength and authenticity, and in niche fragrances with a Mediterranean character. It is added to aromatic body oils, to which it gives a spicy warmth, as well as to candles and diffuser blends with a herbal nuance. It is also suitable for beard formulas with a refreshing and masculine character, where it adds strength without being intrusive. It is used in the development of essences for evening wear and compositions with a Mediterranean spirit, in which the natural origin emphasizes the authenticity of the fragrance. Thanks to its strong herbal profile, it is a preferred choice for formulas seeking character and depth, especially in combination with citrus or pepper notes for a complete, expressive finish.
