Description

We present organic melissa hydrolate for pharmaceuticals, extracted from the species with the botanical name Melissa officinalis. The product is known under the name Melissa organic hydrolate for pharmaceuticals. The raw material comprises the leaves of the plant. The nonvolatile rosmarinic acid in the leaves is retained in the plant residue and for this reason does not reach the aqueous phase of the finished distillate. The extraction is carried out by steam distillation of the leaf mass. The method determines the purity of the finished scent, since the water absorbs mainly the light volatile constituents, while the heavier compounds remain outside the aqueous phase of the distillate. The species belongs to the Lamiaceae family. The plantations are maintained under an organic cultivation regime in Bulgaria, which is why the raw material bears no traces of synthetic auxiliary agents. The composition is free of preservatives and colorants. The aroma is soft, and the fresh, herbal and citrus sides of the species intertwine in it. The citrus thread is due to the monoterpene aldehydes citral and citronellal, which occupy a leading place among the volatile constituents alongside the herbal tones. The color starts from colorless and reaches slightly yellowish. The consistency remains that of a clear liquid, while the leaf raw material contributes few colored substances. The organic origin of the leaves and the gentle extraction together determine the composition of the finished distillate, so it remains close to the original plant raw material. In addition, the fresh and herbal sides of the scent go together in its soft intensity and in the overall profile. Application
Melissa leaf hydrolate, obtained by steam distillation from organic cultivation, is used as a base for liquid pharmaceutical forms with a soft herbal character and good tolerability by the mucous membranes. It is suitable for gargle solutions and oral rinses, for spray and drop forms with a delicate taste, as well as for inhalation compositions with a fine aromatic profile. It is also used for diluting active ingredients in sensitive formulations, in compresses with a calming effect and in suspensions with a balanced taste profile. Thanks to its stable composition without sharp notes, the hydrolate is also included in combined liquid systems for oral intake, in solutions for mucosal hygiene and in aerosol forms, where a soft, natural base with good compatibility and long-term storage stability in the finished product is sought.

Storage

Store organic melissa hydrolate in a dark, cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Maintain a temperature of +4°C to +10°C to limit the growth of microorganisms. After opening, use the contents within 6 months and limit the amount of air in the container. Use only aluminum or glass bottles for pharmaceutical products, preferably dark glass, which protect the hydrolate for pharmaceuticals from light. Close tightly after each use to prevent air and contaminants from entering. Observing these conditions preserves the quality and safety of the product for a longer period.
