Description

We present organic melissa hydrolate for cosmetics, obtained from the species with the botanical name Melissa Officinalis. The product bears the name Melissa Organic Hydrolat for Cosmetics. Extraction is carried out with steam, which preserves the aromatic profile in pure form, without the overlay of foreign tones. The raw material comes from the leaves, where the glandular hairs on the surface collect the volatile compounds of the species. The base of the leaf is cordate, and the margin is incised-serrate. The scent unfolds a fresh, herbal and citrus side at mild strength. The mild level of the aroma results from the extraction method itself, since the steam mainly takes up the light aromatic constituents of the leaves. The liquid is clear, and its tone remains between colorless and faintly yellowish. The light tone comes directly from the leaf raw material, while the more intensely colored parts of the plant remain outside processing. The plantations in Bulgaria are maintained organically, which also sets the composition of the finished liquid. In addition, the composition contains no preservatives or colorants. Membership in the Lamiaceae family explains the presence of volatile compounds in the leaf mass, which pass into the aqueous phase and determine the character of the distillate. Citral and citronellal are the main monoterpene aldehydes of the species and form the recognizable citrus thread in the scent of the liquid, alongside its herbal side. The leaves are harvested from organic plantations, so the raw material enters distillation without residues of synthetic auxiliary substances. Organic cultivation and gentle extraction complement each other, as the former limits external substances in the raw material and the latter transfers only the light aromatic fraction. The final product combines organic origin, leaf raw material and a mild citrus-herbal aroma in a clear liquid.

Application
Melissa leaf hydrolate, obtained by steam distillation using an organic method, is a valuable ingredient in cosmetics because of its soothing and refreshing effect on the skin. It is used in toning facial lotions, refreshing sprays and solutions for the care of sensitive skin. It is suitable for inclusion in creams against blemishes, serums with a balancing effect and after-sun care products. It is also applied in facial cleansing formulas, toners for oily skin and compress solutions for mild irritation. It is also used in hair products that give freshness to the scalp and in micellar waters with a gentle action. Manufacturers of care products of organic origin prefer it for its fresh aroma and ability to balance the skin without weighing it down. It is also suitable for soothing face masks, toning compresses for the eye area and aftershave care products of organic origin, valued for their mild effect on the skin.
