Description

We present natural melissa hydrolate for cosmetics, obtained from the plant Melissa officinalis. The liquid bears the name Melissa natural hydrolate for cosmetics and reaches foreign markets under this name. The plants grow in Bulgarian plantations, where cultivation is carried out naturally and without artificial support from outside. Since growth takes place without artificial agents, the natural character of the raw material passes intact into the distillate, which takes up no preservatives or colorants. Extraction is carried out with steam, and this method of extraction accounts for the purity of the scent that the finished distillate retains after processing. Processing uses the leaves, which sit on stalks and bear an ovate blade with a cordate base and an incised-serrate margin along the edge. The scent combines fresh, herbal and citrus sides. Its strength remains mild. The color ranges from colorless to faintly yellowish. The hydrolate retains a liquid and uniform consistency. The botanical family of the species bears the name Lamiaceae. Among the main aromatic constituents of the species are the monoterpene aldehydes citral and citronellal, which determine the citrus side of the scent in the finished liquid. In addition, the light color is associated with the processed leaves, while the mildness of the scent results from the steam extraction method. While the color remains light, the aromatic profile retains its citrus and herbal direction in the finished liquid. More precisely, the combination of natural cultivation and steam distillation determines the pure composition and mild character that melissa imparts to the finished liquid.

Application
Melissa leaf hydrolate, obtained naturally by steam distillation, is a valuable ingredient in cosmetics because of its soothing and refreshing effect on the skin. It is used in toning facial lotions, refreshing sprays and solutions for the care of sensitive skin. It is suitable for inclusion in creams against blemishes, serums with a balancing effect and after-sun care products. It is also applied in facial cleansing formulas, toners for oily skin and compress solutions for mild irritation. It is also used in hair products that give freshness to the scalp and in micellar waters with a gentle action. Manufacturers of care products prefer it for its fresh aroma, mild action and ability to balance the skin without weighing it down. It is also suitable for soothing face masks, toning compresses for the eye area and aftershave care products, sought after for their mild, gentle effect on the skin.
