Description

We present a natural linden blossom hydrolate for pharmaceuticals, obtained from the species Tilia cordata. Under the name Linden Blossom natural hydrolate for pharmaceuticals, the distillate is also offered outside the country. Production goes through steam distillation, and it is precisely the method that determines the purity of the aroma in the finished liquid. The raw material consists of the flowers, and together with them the tongue-shaped membranous bract fused to the common peduncle also enters processing. The color lies between colorless and faintly yellowish, while the liquid retains its clarity and uniform consistency. The aroma is mild in strength, and the scent gathers a spicy, floral and herbal side. The species belongs to the family Malvaceae. The harvest reaches distillation in the form of whole inflorescences. Plantations in Bulgaria provide the flower raw material, and the trees are cultivated naturally. Since the plants develop without artificial support, the composition of the distillate remains entirely natural and takes up only the substances derived from the processed flowers. Preservatives and colorants are absent from the liquid. Citronellol, terpineol, limonene, nerol and farnesol are present in the volatile fraction of the flowers, which gives inner fullness to the mild scent in the finished liquid. In addition, the high moisture content of the raw material accelerates the breakdown of the aromatic substances. The inflorescence develops as a cyme, and pollination takes place through insects. The light tone of the distillate results from the flower part, while the mildness of the aroma follows from the steam extraction method. More precisely, through the connection between the flower raw material and steam extraction, the linden blossom becomes a liquid with a mild floral character and a light tone.

Application

Natural linden blossom hydrolate is used in pharmaceutical manufacturing as the water base of hydrophilic gels for external use. Hydrophilic gels build their structure in an aqueous medium, so the plant water constitutes their liquid base. The liquid base imparts a scent to the gel in which spicy and floral notes combine with a herbal nuance and correct the odor of the active ingredients. In addition, oil-in-water creams include the product as the aqueous phase surrounding the finely dispersed particles of vegetable oil in the emulsion. The colorless to faintly yellowish distillate preserves the light appearance of the emulsion. Gels containing the distillate remain transparent, because it contains no fatty components. Hydroalcoholic solutions for external use also include the raw material, since it mixes evenly with ethyl alcohol. The solutions combine linden blossom hydrolate with rose water. Hydroalcoholic solutions obtain their odor-correcting aqueous component from the distillate, which is why it also serves in them as an excipient.

Storage

Store the natural linden blossom hydrolate in a dark, cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat. Maintain a temperature of +4°C to +10°C to limit the growth of microorganisms. After opening, use the contents within 6 months and limit the amount of air in the packaging. Use only aluminum or glass bottles for pharmaceutical products, preferably made of dark glass, which protect the pharmaceutical hydrolate from light. Close tightly after each use to prevent air and contaminants from entering. Observing these conditions preserves the quality and safety of the product for a longer period.
