According to botanical classification, the species belongs to the family Cupressaceae. The needles serve as the only starting material, and their needle-like form is preserved until the end of the plant's life and arranged in whorls. The plantations in Bulgaria are maintained according to organic rules, and synthetic agents are kept aside. Extraction by steam distillation preserves the aromatic profile, because no solvents enter the liquid and the volatile fraction comes solely from the needles of the plant. The aqueous phase collects the oxygenated volatile compounds, which is why the scent is clearly perceptible in the liquid. The aroma remains of medium intensity. The fresh, piney tone goes together with a resinous side in the overall profile. In the needle oil, monoterpene hydrocarbons take the leading place, with pinene and sabinene at the forefront. The liquid remains clear, and its color covers the range from colorless to pale yellow. A grayish waxy bloom is visible on the stomatal band of the needle. The needle basis of the raw material explains the faint color, since the water carries away mostly colorless compounds, while the pigments are retained in the leaves themselves. Storage

Store organic juniper needle hydrolate in a dark, cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Maintain a temperature of +4°C to +10°C to limit the growth of microorganisms. After opening, use the contents within 6 months and limit the amount of air in the container. Use only aluminum or glass bottles for cosmetic products, preferably dark glass, which protect the cosmetic hydrolate from light. Close tightly after each use to prevent air and contaminants from entering. Observing these conditions preserves the freshness and quality of the product for a longer period.
