Description

Our natural geranium root hydrolate for foods comes from the species Geranium macrorrhizum. The hydrolate is known as Geranium Root natural hydrolate for food. The product is offered as a clear liquid with a uniform body and a constant appearance. The plant falls within the Geraniaceae family. The pale yellow to greenish color is due to the root raw material and remains the same in every part of the liquid. Steam distillation determines the pure herbal character of the liquid. The distillate carries a soft aromatic strength. The fleshy rhizome lies shallow and creeps along the soil surface, which makes the underground mass the main source for obtaining this natural hydrolate. Herbal, warm and slightly sweet tones intertwine in the aromatic picture. The raw material originates from Bulgaria, where the plants are grown naturally, as only this regime keeps the aqueous phase pure and free of foreign substances. The liquid combines the aqueous phase and volatile substances from the root mass, without added preservatives or colorants. Elemenone, globulol and guaiene lead in the volatile fraction of the underground part, and therefore the scent tends toward a herbal and warm direction with a light sweetness. The species forms chemotypes with different compositions, with citronellol and geraniol leading in some and sesquiterpene ketones in others, which is why their aromas do not coincide. The natural method of cultivation determines the composition, while the underground origin of the raw material explains the color. The purity of the aroma stems precisely from the extraction method. The final geranium liquid remains clear, with a soft aromatic strength and a warm herbal tone with a light sweetness.

Application
Geranium root hydrolate finds diverse application in flavoring foods and drinks. In confectionery, it adds a delicate herbal nuance to desserts, creams, mousses, puddings, glazes and baked goods, and also enriches the taste of ice creams, jams and jellies. It is suitable for chocolate products, breakfast cereals, granola and bars, to which it gives a fine floral accent. In cooking, it is used in the preparation of marinades, sauces, dressings, cream soups and pâtés, giving a characteristic aroma to gourmet salads and spreads. The product is incorporated into soft drinks, syrups, compotes, iced teas, smoothies and fresh juices, as well as into fermented and functional drinks, liqueurs and tinctures. It combines well with dairy products such as yogurts and cultured milk, as well as with plant-based alternatives and vegan recipes. It can be used for flavoring culinary oils, seasoning blends and products for home preserving, and its delicate character also makes it suitable for flavoring waters and value-added drinks.
