Description
Our organic Mentha spicata essential oil for foods originates from the species Mentha spicata. It is offered on the international market under the name Spearmint organic essential oil for food. The plant is grown organically in Bulgaria, and the Lamiaceae family, to which it belongs, unites aromatic herbs with a square stalk and a rhizomatous base. The species is widespread in Europe, and Bulgarian plantations provide the raw material for this product. The stalks of the herb provide the raw material for distillation. Steam distillation carries the volatile substances out of the stalk, and the purity of its aromatic part depends precisely on this gentle extraction method. The aromatic profile combines freshness and sweetness around a menthol direction, and the strength of the scent stays at a medium level. The liquid appears colourless or pale yellow. The pale tone comes from the stalk used, owing to the weak pigments in the aboveground greenery of the species. The consistency is liquid and uniform throughout the entire volume of the product. The composition of the product includes entirely organic plant substances from the aboveground part of the species, and preservatives and colourants are absent from the finished volatile blend. Organic farming stands behind this purity, as the cultivation method determines what goes into the final composition of the finished essential oil. Among the volatile substances, carvone takes the lead, while limonene occupies a subordinate place in the aromatic fraction. The qualities of the oil rest on the pure plant origin, along with the aboveground raw material and the gentle steam extraction. The stalk of Mentha spicata serves as the sole source of this liquid. The oil retains its liquid form and entirely plant-based character.

Application
Mentha spicata oil is used in the food industry as a natural flavouring with a refreshing, minty and slightly sweet taste. It is suitable for flavouring non-alcoholic and carbonated drinks, lemonades, teas and smoothies, as well as cold drinks and cocktails, where it adds a fresh herbal note. In confectionery production, it is used in the manufacture of chewing gum, sweets, chocolates, jelly products and sugar products, as well as in fillings for truffles and eclairs, glazes, mousses and dessert creams. It is also used in baked goods, biscuits, wafers and cupcakes with a delicate minty aroma, as well as in syrups for pancakes, toppings for fruit salads and sauces for sweet products. It is used to flavour ice creams, puddings and frozen desserts, as well as energy bars, protein bars and other functional products. Besides confectionery production, the oil is also applied in savoury recipes, as a spice for soups, sauces, dressings, marinades and side dishes with a light herbal taste, as well as in fillings for savoury pies. It is also suitable for flavouring bread, snacks and fillings with a fresh note. Thanks to its characteristic refreshing aroma, the product is a valuable component for manufacturers seeking a natural way to add a minty taste to a variety of culinary products and confectionery.
